Non-exempt employees are required to give at least 2 weeks of working notice of their intent to terminate employment to their supervisor. This notice must be in writing with a copy to the Human Resources Department (HR).
Exempt employees are required to give at least 4 weeks of working notice of their intent to terminate employment to their supervisor. This notice must be in writing with a copy to the Human Resources Department (HR).
During the notice period, employees are expected to work each day. Vacation time cannot be used to extend the date of termination. Use of vacation or personal time during the notice period will require the employee to extend his/her notice equal to the number of day(s) absent. Employees who use sick time of three (3) or more days will be required to produce a physician’s statement verifying the need for the absences.
Provided the above written notice requirements are met, full-time employees will be paid unused vacation time that has been earned through the last full month worked. The last day of actual work is the employee's termination date.
Prior to Separation
Employees must satisfy any outstanding debts (e.g. tuition charges, computer purchase balance, etc.) with the University prior to separation.
Employees must return all Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK University property on or before their last day of work. Where permitted by applicable laws, Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK University may withhold the cost of any items that are not returned from the employee's check or final paycheck. Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK University may also take all action deemed appropriate to recover or protect its property. Examples of Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK University property that must be returned includes, but is not limited to:
- Access Cards
- Cell Phones, Smart Phones, etc and all related accessories
- Client/donor lists
- Credit cards
- Equipment or Tools of any kind
- Identification badges
- Keys
- Laptops
- Manuals
- Personal Computers and/or any related software or hardware
- Protective equipment
- Security passes
- Uniforms
- Vehicles
HR may schedule an exit interview upon receipt of employee’s written notice to terminate employment. The interview is an opportunity to discuss such issues as: employee benefits, conversion privileges, repayment of outstanding debts to Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK University, and return of Â鶹ÊÓƵAPK University-owned property. Exiting employees can also make suggestions and ask any questions during this meeting.
